Roderic O’Gorman meets local reps from Tipperary over Roscrea hotel




During a meeting between Minister for Integration Roderic O’Gorman and local Tipperary leaders, several new initiatives were proposed for Roscrea, reports RTE.

TD Fianna Fáil A “very positive” meeting, according to Jackie Cahill, was held. Several suggestions were proposed, and Minister O’Gorman will now address them with the Taoiseach and the Tánaiste.

Yesterday, up to seventeen asylum seekers—believed to be women and children—were transferred to the Racket Hall hotel close to Roscrea, County Tipperary, reports RTE.

Protesters and gardaí got into fights when the applicants for international protection were being taken into the hotel.

There were up to 200 protestors at one time, and the Garda Public Order Unit was there.

Speaking on his way into Cabinet this morning, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said: “We’ve done that already to a certain extent with the Community Recognition Fund, but I think we need to do more and to help out with increased resources around health and around education,” reports RTE.
