Ross: “I have no intention of intervening in Bus Eireann dispute as such an intervention would undermine the legacy of Seán Lemass”

The Minister for Transport Shane Ross has said he has no intention of intervening in the ongoing dispute between Bus Eireann management and it’s staff, claiming it would undermine the legacy left behind by Seán Lemass.

Minister Ross made his comments in the wake of the recent announcement by Union members at the company who say an all out strike is on the horizon.

Although Mr Ross claims the Government are willing to help, he claimed any intervention will only happen through the proper channels.

Minister Ross told reporters: “It has always been so ever since the then Minister Seán Lemass TD established a new industrial relations machinery in 1946.”

“We should not undo his measured work and later subsequent reforms accordingly, we should avoid embroiling ministers in resolving industrial relations issues that would cut across the respective roles of the Workplace Relations Commission and the Labour Court.”
