The Minister for Sport Shane Ross has revealed that he hopes that funding for grassroots football will be restored within the next fortnight.
Ross who expects to allocate €2m in funding for development purposes also revealed that the funding would be paid through a third party rather than the FAI.
Speaking to RTÉ News, Minister Ross said that the funding must go through a third party as we can’t trust the FAI.
The latest developments come after the publication of an audit at the national football association uncovered that the organisation has more than €55m in debt.
If approved the funding would be allocated to 60 community development officers across the country and would be used for their programmes.
