RSA say it will take at least a year to clear driving test backlog with the average waiting time 25 weeks

The Road Safety Authority has warned that it will take a year to reduce the waiting list for driving tests.

Speaking before an Oireachtas this afternoon the RSA’s s Director of Driver testing Declan Naughton, said the current average waiting period now stands at 25 weeks.

The committee was told that the RSA has recruited 40 testers but it would take at least 40 more testers to reduce the average waiting period by February 2022.

It is believed that 62,024 people are currently awaiting to sit their test, whilst a further 30,720 people are currently awaiting to finish their Essential Driving Training which has been suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
