RTÉ has stated that several payment discrepancies uncovered within the broadcaster are “past issues”.

The details were outlined in an internal report that has been submitted to Minister for Media Patrick O’Donovan, reports RTE.

According to the Irish Independent, the document lists “eight irregular payments, ranging between €10,000 and €30,000, mainly related to pensions”, reports RTE.

It is believed the findings are part of a report expected to be presented to Cabinet in the coming weeks, which was prepared by RTÉ’s Chief Financial Officer, Mari Hurley.

Ms Hurley took on the CFO position in March of last year, reports RTE.

RTÉ confirmed that the financial matters mentioned in the document “are past issues” and “for the most part years or decades old”, reports RTE.

In a statement, a spokesperson said the issues “were identified and addressed by RTÉ” and “were brought to the attention of the Department”, reports RTE.

The Irish Independent also reported that the issues were “flagged with the audit and risk committee of the RTÉ board, and the chair of the board has asked for a written report on all of the issues identified”, reports RTE.

The article further noted that the report “also identifies issues around a piece of land as well as a valuable piece of artwork in possession of the organisation whose ownership is unclear”.

Regarding the 2025 Voluntary Exit Programme, RTÉ said it is “currently finalising its review of applications and we expect approximately 100 people to leave RTÉ this year”, reports RTE.
