Despite corporate media assuring people that Russian President Vladimir Putin was bluffing in his assertion that Russia would only accept Rubles for its gas from unfriendly states the leader has now signed a decree demanding payment in Rubles for Russian gas supplies, which is set to begin April 1st.
The decree states that while Russia will continue to supply gas at set volumes and prices, but that buyer of the gas must open accounts in Russian banks, and warned that Moscow can halt gas contracts if buyers don’t pay in Rubles; additionally, new proceedings in EUR or USD could be blocked Bloomberg reported.
The signing of the decree has led to even further strengthening of the Rubble with approximately 80 Rubbles being equal to one U.S dollar as of Monday night, this is roughly the same as pre-Ukraine invasion levels.
This marks a new phase in West’s confrontation with Russia and stellar chess move from President Putin.
