Russell Brand completely denies allegations of rape and sexual assault

Russell Brand was accused of rape, sexual assault and emotional abuse for seven years at the height of his fame, reports RTE.

Four women aged just 16 allege sexual harassment between 2006 and 2013 when Brand worked for BBC Radio 2 and Channel 4 and also starred in Hollywood films.

Following a joint investigation by The Sunday Times, The Times and Channel 4 Dispatch, the comedian and actor face allegations of controlling abusive and predatory behaviour.

Brand vehemently denied the allegations and in a video posted online claimed that all of her relationships were “consensual” before accusing the media of a “coordinated attack,” reports RTE.

The ruling came after Channel 4 last night broadcast a 90-minute film called Russell Brand: In Plain Sight, in which four unidentified women detailed their allegations and other women spoke about their experiences of working with Brand on a TV set.

They included Helen Berger, Brand’s former personal assistant, who called him a “narcissist” in an interview for the program.

Meanwhile, Brand appeared as planned at the 2,000-capacity Troubadour Wembley Park theatre in northwest London to perform a sold-out comedy show last night.

In his video statement posted online before the claims were published, Brand said he was facing a “litany of extremely egregious and aggressive attacks”, reports RTE.

The 48-year-old continued: “These allegations pertain to the time when I was working in the mainstream, when I was in the newspapers all the time, when I was in the movies and as I have written about extensively in my books, I was very, very promiscuous,” reports RTE.

He continued: “Now during that time of promiscuity the relationships I had were absolutely, always consensual. I was always transparent about that then, almost too transparent, and I am being transparent about it now as well. To see that transparency metastasised into something criminal, that I absolutely deny, makes me question is there another agenda at play,” reports RTE.
