Russia has accused President Joe Biden’s administration of intensifying the war and stated that any move by the US to let Ukraine to launch US missiles deep into Russia would indicate that it was actively participating in the conflict, reports RTE.

For months, Russia has warned the west about how it would perceive such a choice and that it would increase the likelihood of conflict with the NATO alliance, which is led by the United States.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that the stories were not based on any official announcement when questioned about claims made by the New York Times and Reuters that the decision to launch long-range attacks had been reached by Mr. Biden’s administration, reports RTE.

“If such a decision was indeed formulated and brought to the Kyiv regime, then this is a qualitatively new round of tension and a qualitatively new situation from the point of view of US involvement in this conflict,” Mr Peskov said, reports RTE.

Speaking in St. Petersburg in September, President Vladimir Putin made Russia’s stance quite clear, according to Mr. Peskov.

On September 12, Mr. Putin stated that Western support for the move would entail “the direct involvement of NATO countries, the United States and European countries in the war in Ukraine” since NATO personnel and military facilities would need to be involved in missile firing and targeting.

“It is obvious that the outgoing administration in Washington intends to take steps to continue adding fuel to the fire and continue to provoke tension around this conflict,” Mr Peskov said, reports RTE.

The Biden administration’s decision was revealed by Reuters yesterday, according to a person with knowledge of the decision and two US officials. The ruling was also reported by the New York Times.

According to sources cited in both accounts, the action was partially prompted by claims that North Korean troops had arrived in the Kursk area of Russia to aid in the defence against a Ukrainian invasion, reports RTE.

The reports have angered senior Russian lawmakers.

Maria Butina, a member of the Russian parliament, claimed that the US was running the risk of igniting World War III.

When Donald Trump took over for Mr. Biden in the New Year, she expressed her optimism that he would overturn the judgement, reports RTE.
