There have been serious signs that some kind of ceasefire with the potential for peace agreement could be reached in Ukraine after Kiev gives in to Moscow’s demands to pledge military neutrality, ban foreign military bases and never join NATO.

In response to these pledges, the Kremlin has announced it will reduce its military operations near Kiev and focus on consolidating its gains in the Donbass region.

It is likely the Western backed regime in Kiev will also relinquish its demands for Russia to return Crimea to Ukraine and recognize the independence of Donetsk and Lugansk in any peace deal.

Following the almost six-week war the Ukrainian military which has been heavily armed and trained by NATO forces is no longer in a position to seriously threaten the separatists’ regions in the east of the country, against whom they have been waging an unremitting and indiscriminate campaign of violence for eight years until President Putin launched his special military operation.
