Pilots at Ryanair have given their support to workers at Dunnes Stores who are currently on strike, describing zero-hour contracts as “an affront to every worker’s right to earn a living wage”.
The Ryanair Pilots Group (RGP) gave their support after staff at Dunnes Stores represented by the Mandate union protested outside stores yesterday against the use of what they call “excessive” low-hour and temporary contracts.
The pilots group represents the majority of Ryanair pilots, who say that new-entry pilots apply to fly for the company must accept these sort of contracts.
The group also say more than 60% of pilots operating for Ryanair are contract workers.
Ryanairhave since responded to the claims stating: “Since this is a group of KLM, Air France, Aer Lingus and other competitor airline pilots, their occasional releases have zero credibility. “They do not represent any Ryanair pilots.”
