Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is no more: Company discontinues model due to unresolved safety issues

Samsung has confirmed that it will no longer manufacture the Galaxy Note 7 device, due to a string of unresolved safety issues.

The device, which was originally launched in August last, soon became infamous for a tendency to ignite while charging. Samsung quickly identified an issue with the device’s batteries, and commenced a worldwide replace programme.

However, some of the replacement units also proved unreliable, after a well-publicized incident where smoke began billowing out of a replacement device while on board a Southwest airline flight, while the aircraft was still on the tarmac.

The company has finally confirmed that it will no longer manufacture the model, and has advised customers who have already purchased one, or have had it replaced, to stop using it and contact their provider to organize a refund.

Samsung’s shares have plunged a massive 8% in the wake of the incident.
