Samsung has temporarily abandoned production of the its Galaxy Note 7 device, due to safety concerns.
The device was launched to great fanfare last August, but reports of some units going up in flames while charging soon began to emerge worldwide. Samsung put the blame in one particular set of batteries, and offered a replacement programme. Up to 2m units were recalled.
However, even the replacement devices are proving unsafe, as reports emerged last week that smoke began billowing out of a replacement unit on board a Southwest Airline aircraft while the plane was still on the ground, prompting the cancellation of the flight.
Samsung has now halted production of the Note 7 model, pending further investigations.
