Santry locals say that they’re not happy after around 60 migrants moved to their area

Around 60 asylum seekers in Ireland were moved overnight to a new accommodation centre in Old Traff, north Dublin, where protests by opponents of the plan have erupted in recent days, reports RTE.

The Department for Integration confirmed the situation to RTÉ News and said people were moved to the Airways Industrial Estate in Old Trafford, north Dublin, on Friday night following talks with the Gardai.

Around 60 people seeking asylum in Ireland are understood to have been moved to the site from the CityWest complex in west Dublin, partly to make room for people arriving in CityWest.

So far, however, no information about the individuals has been released, including their original origins or a breakdown of their gender or age.

The Old Town site is one of three new accommodation centers that have opened in Dublin in recent days to help reduce the number of asylum seekers staying out in Ireland.

The other locations are the former Senior College on Eblana Avenue in Dún Laoghaire and Dolcain House in Clondalkin, reports RTE.

The location of the old town was the subject of protests last week by those opposed to the plan.

According to current statistics, there are currently 503 newly arrived asylum seekers without state accommodation, reports RTE.
