Saudi Arabia has carried out the mass beheading of 37 people and put on of the decapitated victims on public display.
This was the largest mass execution in Saudi Arabia in three years and 34 of those beheaded belonged to the country’s oppressed Shia minority.
This also marks another record for the county’s de-facto ruler Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the largest execution of Shia Muslims in Saudi history.
The executions came after what Amnesty International described as “sham trials”
11 of those executed had been convicted of spying for the Saudi’s arch-rival, Iran, while 14 others were executed for allegedly taking part in violent anti-government protests.
Since the start of the year the staunch Western ally and major oil producer has official executed 100 people.
