Scam alert: Gardai issue warning, in particular to older people to be vigilant about a number of ongoing phone scams

Older people in particular have been asked to be extremely careful with what phone calls they take and what information they give out over the phone to unknown, unfamiliar and unscheduled callers.

People are asked to share the below information with their family, friends and elderly loved ones in an effort to stop the fraudsters from obtaining their goals.

Gardai have issued a renewed warning for people to be vigilant about phone scams currently doing the rounds in Ireland.

Many people are reporting receiving calls or text messages purporting to be from Gardai or Revenue Commissioners.

The calls or texts say that the person in question owes money and that action will be taken against them unless they follow a certain link and pay.

Gardai are saying that these are well-orchestrated scams that sometimes involve multiple callers seemingly corroborating what the other caller is saying. The ultimate goal is to access the person’s bank details.
