Scam warning: Indians are pretending to ring from Microsoft using this Irish phone number

We’ve received a number of reports that people with distinctive Indian accents are ringing Irish people pretending to be from Microsoft Windows attempting to get their credit card details.

The scamming thugs have managed to hijack an actual Irish phone number (below) rather than that the usual +whatever random number they’re calling from in India.

The calls have all been reported as the same:
Usually it’s an Indian man (but sometimes an Indian woman) saying that they’re calling because “your Windows package needs an update”, then asking if you’re near your computer and follow their instructions.

They then say that they need your credit card to process the payment that has updated the settings.

Gardai are aware of these phone calls and people are strongly advised to tell hang up immediately.

People are asked to share this information with their friends, especially elderly relatives, friends and neighbours – it’s imperative old people know the dangers of such phone calls.

The number reported by several people to us that these scamming thugs are phoning from is: 01-4307777.

Please share this information with your friends and family.
