People who use the popular messaging app Whatsapp have been warned not to update their app to ‘Whatsapp Gold’ as the so called upgrade is malware created by scammers.

Bosses at the messaging service are advising people to ignore a link that asks them if they want to avail of the upgrade. It s understood users will receive the following message urging them to upgrade. “Hey. Finally Secret Whatsapp golden version has been leaked. This version is used only by big celebrities. Now we can use it too”.

Whatsapp say they have not introduced any upgrade and have insisted they have no plans to do so. It is believed the fake app claims to offer new features such as video chats and the tantalising option to delete messages from people’s phones after you’ve sent them.

Whatsapp also say installing the fake app could result in your phone or tablet being infected with malware that can see all your data and track your whereabouts.
