The cost of the massively controversial Bus Connects project may end up being a lot more than the initial 22m figure quoted, and that’s before it even starts.
Bus Connects involves Compulsory Purchase Orders for land adjacent to proposed wider bus routes. Problem is, this land is often occupied by people’s back gardens and other property.
The Government put forward a figure of 22m as overall cost, but it turns out that this figure is only ‘indicative’, so the real figure may be many multiples of that. In light of the National Children’s Hospital scandal, the Government is certainly not to be trusted with financial matters.
The project has met with stiff opposition from residents who vehemently opposed to have their property mauled by wider roads.
