The ongoing homeless crisis has seen yet another dark month as latest figures show that there were 9,698 people living in emergency accommodation during the month of September.
According to latest figures published by the Department of Housing there was a 16% increase in the number of people seeking emergency accommodation last month.
The figures which will surely put increased pressure on the Minister for Housing Eoghan Murphy, were made all the worse given that the biggest increase of those living in emergency accommodation were children.
It is believed that a total of 136 children were made homeless within the space of one month, whilst a further 35 adults were living in emergency accommodation in the month of September.
The sharp increase which has been heavily criticised by homeless and children’s advocacy groups revealed that there are now a total of 3,829 children homeless across Ireland.
The latest developments have been blasted by both both opponents of Mr Murphy and children’s advocacy groups who say the housing Minister and the government are failing to address the crisis.
