Scandalous: Woman is asked to pay €75 per night after spending four nights on a hospital trolley

A&E departments across the country have become war-torn microcosms where citizens languish on trolleys for days and nights on end, with little hope of getting a dignified treatment.

In the latest case, the HSE has had the audacity of demanding €75-per-night off a woman after she spent four nights lying on a trolley.

Deirdre Tuohy attended Our Lady of Lourdes hospital on Friday evening last, after experiencing symptoms related to her medical history of blood clots.

Ms. Tuohy pointed out that she was seen by a doctor with relative celerity, but then was left to sit on a chair until 3.30am on Saturday morning.

Her ordeal continued on a day ward on board a trolley, and she says that after the day patients went home, she was left abandoned on her own private hell on the trolley, where she remained until Sunday.

Shortly after being discharged, she received a letter demanding €75 per night.

In response to this outrageous action, Ms. Tuohy said “I’ve worked all my life, I pay my taxes. I want the Government to start looking after the people of Ireland. I cannot afford to pay bills like this.”
