Schumacher recovery ‘possible’, doctor says

Michael Schumacher

Jean-Francois Payen, a doctor who treated the Formula One champion, has said that Schumacher is no longer in a coma, and that his recovery is ‘possible’ within three years.

Payen regularly visits Schumacher at his Switzerland home to track his progress, and says that ‘life after a serious head injury is punctuated by stages.’ He predicts a period of convalescence of between one to three years.

Schumacher was enjoying a skiing trip with his son last December when he fell and hit his head on a rock. The force of the impact cracked his helmet. He was brought to hospital in Grenoble and was put in an induced coma to treat his injuries.
