Scrappy Ireland beat Georgia in World Cup qualifier

In a scrappy affair Ireland managed to secure their first win World Cup qualifying tonight by beating Georgia 1-0 in the Aviva stadium.

In a relatively poor game Martin O’Neill’s men managed come out on top thanks to Seamus Coleman’s solo effort early in the second half.

Ireland who now have four points from their opening two games, did not get off to a good start failing to make any real chances throughout the first half and were unlucky not to behind as Georgia struck the bar after a great team break.

Luckily Ireland got in at the break 0-0, in the second half the half time team talk seemed to work and they got their just rewards on the 55th minute when Coleman made a terrific run down the right wing and across th box to score from six yards.

Ireland continued to press and could have had a second after James McLean’s bullet header was rightly ruled out for offside.

Thankfully as the game drew to a close Ireland managed to hang on to take all three points going into Sunday’s game against Moldova.
