Second day of the National Ploughing Championships will be delayed due to strong winds caused by Storm Ali

There was some bad news for those attending the National Ploughing Championships this morning as the National Ploughing Association confirmed that there will be a two hour delay due to strong winds from the incoming Storm Ali.

In an announcement made late on Tuesday evening, the NPA said the second day of the event will now not take place until 11am on Wednesday morning.

The news comes as thousands of visitors to the event were expected to arrive before 9am to watch the next stage of the championships.

It is believed organisers came to the decision following a meeting with Met Eireann who warned that strong winds gusting 110kmph are expected to hit the event later today.

Meanwhile the national forecaster say an Orange status wind warning will remain in place for 17 counties until later today.
