Serial killer nurse who killed 85 patients is sentenced to life in prison

A former nurse has been sentenced to life behind bars after he killed 85 people by injecting them with drugs.

The man Niels Hoegel, was sentenced to life in prison after he was found guilty of committing the murders between 2000 and 2005.

Hoegel who is already serving a life sentence for committing two murders and two attempted murders – was convicted on Thursday.

It is believed that Hoegel committed as many as 100 murders at hospital in Oldenburg, over a five year.

However 15 charges brought against him were dropped due to a lack of evidence.

Hoegel who admitted to 43 murders, is believed to have administered the drugs before attempting to play a hero by trying to revive all his victims.

The former nurse’s crimes which have been described as the worst in post war German history, led to a large police investigation as authorities were forced to exume bodies in order to build a case against him.

Reports in Germany say all of Hoegel’s victims were aged between 34 and 96.
