Gardaí in Co Roscommon came across a rather unusual motoring offence earlier this week after they stopped a driver for not wearing a seatbelt.

The bizarre incident occurred in Roscommon town recently when they were carrying out a routine traffic stop, when officers from the Gardaí discovered there more than were five people in the car, the maximum allowed. Gardaí say they came across the vehicle and found two people in the front and three in the back, but then shockingly they discovered two more passengers crammed into the boot of the car.

The unusual discovery prompted Gardaí to take action as the two passengers travelling in the boot of the car were forced to vacate the vehicle and get onboard a nearby train to continue on the rest of their journey. Meanwhile the driver was given a ticket for an overloading his vehicle. Gardaí have said they have the issue a public matter to urge people not to overload and always wear a seatbelt.
