In a truly remarkable story a young boy has shown the true act of kindness after he decided to donate all of his First Holy Communion money to Temple Street Children’s Hospital.

The kind young boy named Liam O’Flynn aged 8 showed the true meaning of giving when he decided to treat all the sick young children, along with their siblings and the hospital staff to ice-creams recently. However Liam’s kind act didn’t stop there as his rather significant donation of €550 managed to buy new toys for the children’s play area in the hospital and contributed to the ‘reward fund’ policy.

The truly touching act of generosity overwhelmed Liam’s mother who was full of praise for her son telling reporters for The Independent.ie she is extremely proud. Susan said: “He’s remarkable to be honest, it’s been a hugely positive day.” “The same kid is an absolute messer, he’s a wild thing. But he’s been thinking for months about what he could get for the kids at Temple Street Hospital. Susan went onto say: “We thought look, if this is what he wants to do we should help him. “Initially, he wanted to buy chairs for the mums and dads to sleep on, but when Gracie was sick our neighbours did a lot of fundraising and they have since got chairs.

“Then he was thinking about donating towards machines, but I had to tell him his money wouldn’t go that far. “One of the days when we were above with Gracie a girl who had made her Confirmation had donated lots of new toys and Gracie got one, so he came up with the idea of sweets from that,” she continued. “The hospital designated €150 towards new toys for the children and also put €100 of the money towards the rewards which kids get for being brave after they’ve had a dressing change, now these kids will know it’s one of Liam’s rewards.“The hospital were brilliant, emailing us and letting us know how we wanted the money used and what they were going to do. “There was a piece on Damien Duff on the Temple Street Children’s Hospital Facebook page and Liam’s post got more ‘likes’ so he is so proud of himself!”

Meanwhile management and staff at Temple Street Children’s Hospital have since released a statement thanking Liam for his generosity, A spokesperson for the hospital said:“Thank you so much to Liam for being so generous and donating his communion money so that each child in Temple Street got an ice-cream on Tuesday. “Liam’s sister Gracie spent some time in Temple Street and he wanted to give something back. They added: “We are so grateful to Liam for being so kind and thinking of us and giving all of our little patients a treat yesterday.”

What a remarkable young boy i think we can all agree young Liam is a true hero.
