The sun has started to shine and people are reaching for their sunglasses for summer. Instead of dusting off your old sunnies, you should check out this Irishman’s sunglasses and watches company and get a cool new look for summer 2019.
Eoin McGuinness from Clonalvy in County Meath has started an amazing new sunglasses and watches company with a twist.
Crann, which means tree in Irish, sees sunglasses and watches made with recycled bamboo. The company has already been extremely well received and is going from strength to strength.
Eoin came up with the clever idea when he was travelling in Thailand. He saw how people used bamboo and other woods to make every day items. He also saw how quickly bamboo grows and how it could be used in items that the West uses, such as sunglasses and watches.
After quite some time researching, designing and testing, Crann has born.
Eoin told The Liberal:
“The concept of the brand is to be uniquely Irish so I decided on the name Crann (tree in Irish) and named all the watches and sunglasses after my favourite Irish words. I didn’t really stop there because I really wanted to make the brand as sustainable as possible. I made the decision to give a donation to Crann.ie which is Ireland’s leading voluntary tree organisation dedicated to the promotion and protection of our trees, hedgerows and woodlands. I believe that protecting these beautiful natural resources of Ireland are so important so we have this same beauty in 50 – 100 – 200 years when we might not be around. Having a brand with a conscience is really important.”
The 28-yr-old serial entrepreneur set up his first business ‘McGuinness Marquees’ when he was just 17 and selling it six years later.
Eoin told The Liberal that he is growing the Crann Brand and that growing a business from zero is his passion and that he’s very happy with the success so far.
One thing for sure is that the future is looking bright for Crann.
