Donegal residents forced to defend their own properties as gorse fires take hold




A major fire risk alert has been issued across the country after huge gorse fires told hold in various counties around the country.

The beautiful weather brought risks of such fires, especially with the amount of people having barbecues and being out in the countryside more than usual.

Firefighters having been working all day in west Donegal since 6am this morning.

Residents were forced to defend their properties between Loch an Iúir towards the seaside village of Anagaire, where emergency personnel didn’t reach in time with the speed of the fire.

A Status Orange warning has been issued by the department of agriculture until at least midday Tuesday.
