Seven people die after drinking hand sanitizer at a party

Police in Russia have begun an investigation after seven people died and two others were left in critical condition after they drank hand sanitizer at a party.

It is reported that the nine individuals drank the sanitizer which contained 69% methanol after they ran out of booze whilst attending a party in Tomtor.

Police investigating the incident say three of the individuals died instantly after ingesting the substance which was being used for cleaning hands and protecting those against Covid-19.

It is reported in the Moscow Times that six others were flown to a hospital in Yakutsk where four others sadly passed away, whilst two other people remain on ventilators and are in a coma.

Officers say a criminal investigation into the incident is underway.
