#1 Water meter protest: Eleven people arrested after the end of a peaceful protest against the installation of water meters.

A group of eleven staged a ‘sit down’ protest in O’Connell st. and were eventually arrested by Gardai. Nine have since been charged with public order offences.

#2 Joan Burton: Tanaiste was heckled today during a conference about homelessness organized by IMPACT trade union.

The minister was heckled after a questions and answers session followin her intervention, and one attendant had to be forcibly removed.

#3 Dublin stabbing: GAA player Johnny Cooper was stabbed a dozen times during a night out in Dublin. The 24-year-old footballer received wounds to his face and neck during the attack, and was discharged from the Mater hospital yesterday afternoon.

This was the second stabbing incident to take place in Dublin on Saturday morning. A man in his 20s was injured in Blanchardstown and was also treated in hospital for knife wounds.

#4 IS hostage: Wife of Alan Henning, the British taxi driver kidnapped and held hostage by IS forces in Syria, has pleaded to his captors for his release. The man was driving an ambulance vehicle when he was seized by militants.

Great fears exist for his life, as the jihadist group have threatened to publically behead him, as they have previously done with two Western journalists and one aid worker.

#5 Euromillions: A massive almost €87m jackpot was won by someone in Ireland last Friday night. The winner still remains a mystery. This is the fourth jackpot win in the country since June last year.

#6 Vatican security: Security levels at the Vatican will be increased due to concerns about a possible attack. A conversation between two Arab men intercepted by intelligence staff suggested a possible attack during a public audience by the Pope. The fact was deemed likely, since one of the men was present in the country during the recent past.

#7 Weather: Mild and pleasant weather set to continue for another week at least. Warm temperatures will stay and Sunny conditions will prevail across the country.
