Severely disabled American woman who was missing for 9 days is found alive in the back seat of a car

A severely disabled Kent woman spent nine days in a vehicle at a tow yard after the vehicle was towed with her from a Kent service station.

“We are extremely relieved that we were able to locate and rescue the victim,” Washington Police Chief Rafael Padilla said in a statement. “If not for the efforts of our officers and the support of King County sheriffs and fire, this incident would likely have ended in tragedy.”

An officer took a missing persons report on February 14th from a woman who said her severely disabled 28-yr-old sister had not been seen since February 5th when her mother, a 45-yr-old Kent resident, crashed his vehicle into a petrol station and drove away, leaving his disabled daughter inside, police said.

Officers determined that the vehicle was privately towed to a car park at the request of petrol station staff. The police contacted the towing company, which then located the woman in the vehicle. She had been alone in the car for nine days in freezing temperatures.

Officials immediately called for medical help. Deputies from the King County Sheriff’s Office and the King County Fire Department rushed to the tow yard and found the woman in serious condition. Rescue workers took her to a local hospital for treatment.

Investigators are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
