The cabinet have officially approved new proposals that will see sex offenders being closely monitored upon their release from prison.
It is understood one of the new conditions will see convicted offenders being electronically tagged upon their release from prison if a judge deems it necessary.
Meanwhile information regarding the whereabouts of released offenders would be provided to certain people.
It is believed people living in certain areas would be provided information such as the offenders name and their address.
Although some people would be informed to the released offenders whereabouts, it is believed their information will not be made public in order to avert any risk.
It is expected the new legislation will now be examined by the Oireachtas Justice Committee, before it is passed into law.
