Sexual rights campaigner Peter Tatchell will be on Niall Boylan Show today and defends Roderic O’Gorman over “homophobic hatred and smears”

Peter Tatchell will be interviewed on the Niall Boylan Show on Classic Hits today over the whole Roderic O’Gorman controversy, which many social media users are calling utterly vile.

The sexual rights campaigner weighed in on the Roderic O’Gorman scandal but instead of commenting on his own beliefs regarding underage sex, he instead insisted that O’Gorman had been the subject of a homophobic attack.

In a tweet posted on Monday, Tatchell said that O’Gorman’s appointment as Minister for Children “has attracted sickening homophobic hatred & smears.”
Tatchell was originally drawn into this discussion when he was pictured at a march with O’Gorman who tweeted that he was “delighted that @PeterTatchell is marching with @greenparty_ie.”

Following the emergence of the tweet, Tatchell was forced to comment on a letter published in his name in the Guardian newspaper. He said that the letter had been edited. The letter included a paragraph that said:
“Several of my friends, gay and straight, male and female, had sex with adults from the age of nine to 13. None feel they were abused. All say it was their conscious choice and gave them great joy.”

A protest has been organised for this Saturday at 2pm outside the Dail, led by members of the public and parents concerned by the developing story. Many have expressed horror that their concerns about Tatchell’s friendship with O’Gorman have been written off as homophobia instead of being addressed by him in his capacity as Minister for Children.

It was reported today that O’Gorman plans to introduce new laws lowering the age of consent at which children can choose to change their gender.
