Reported cases of gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphilis have risen for the fifth year in a row, accounting for 2.4m infections in 2018. Medical authorities believe that the actual number of cases is probably much higher, as people may be reluctant or unable to get treatment.
The number of infections in a twelve-month period is the highest since records began.
