Joan Burton’s edifice of ‘social protection’ has today been kitted out with defensive (and offensive) structures to discourage homeless people to find shelter outside it.
The department that is supposed to solve and prevent the shameful issue of homelessness has chosen to erect a deterrent to keep away the very people they are supposed to be protecting.
A recent, similar attempt in London was mired in controversy. Anti-homeless spikes were installed outside public buildings, to drive people away.
This is yet another sad indictment on this Coalition, where every single policy decision is oriented towards the wealthy and discarding the people in need.
Shame on them.
