“She was terrible” – Mixed reactions to McEntee defending the incredible job she did as Minister for Justice

Many people on social media aren’t happy with Helen McEntee appearing to self-praise the job she did as Justice Minister.

Following Fianna Fáil’s criticism of her record as Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee of Fine Gael has responded positively, reports RTE.

As the second week of the General Election campaign begins, justice has been the primary focus.

The subject, which has been a source of conflict between Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael in government since the Dublin riots last year, was the focus of the bigger parties this morning.

Jim O’Callaghan of Fianna Fáil stated that Fine Gael can no longer claim to be the party of law and order. He also mentioned that the Justice brief has been in place for 14 years and that this is the one area in which no progress has been achieved, reports RTE.

5,000 additional gardaí, body cameras, and face recognition technology are all part of Fianna Fáil’s zero-tolerance attitude to crime.

Fianna Fáil unveiled its party’s proposals to combat crime, one of which was to add 5,000 more personnel to An Garda Síochána.

In Cork North-West, party leader Micheál Martin is canvassing alongside Aindrias Moynihan. Later, he will campaign alongside Christopher O’Sullivan in Cork South-West, reports RTE.

Before travelling to Macroom in the Cork North-West constituency, Mr. Martin filed his election candidacy paperwork in Cork city.

If the Justice brief is restored to the Government in a coalition, it also wants to hold it.

In response to criticism, Ms. McEntee stated at a different news conference that “women all over the country will understand what it feels like when men try to claim credit for women’s work,” reports RTE.

When asked three times if she intended to continue serving as Minister of Justice in the event that she was re-elected to the government, she refused to be drawn.

In the meanwhile, Sinn Féin is concentrating on plans for a 9% VAT rate for establishments in the hospitality industry, excluding hotels.

Mary Lou McDonald, the party’s leader, stated during the campaign that she was “in it to win it” and that two weeks is a “eternity” in politics if a week is a lengthy period.

Ms. McDonald will go to Sligo, Mayo, and Galway after stopping at a café in Manorhamilton, Leitrim, reports RTE.
