The High Court has agreed to maintain a series of orders issued to Tusla, the Child and Family Agency, concerning the protection of a highly vulnerable child.

On Tuesday, High Court president Mr Justice David Barniville approved an extension of the orders, which were originally granted last Thursday to ensure the child’s safety, reports Breaking News.

The minor was represented in court by an appointed guardian ad litem. Both parents had legal counsel present at the proceedings, as did the Health Service Executive.

During last Thursday’s session, Mr Justice Barniville issued urgent measures under the court’s minor wardship powers to safeguard the child. When the matter was revisited on Friday, he decided to continue those orders with minor adjustments, reports Breaking News.

The hearings have taken place privately, in accordance with legislation that allows certain cases to be conducted away from the public eye under specific conditions.

The court also ordered a total prohibition on reporting last Thursday’s proceedings, reports Breaking News.

At Friday’s session, legal representatives for The Irish Times, RTÉ, and Mediahuis submitted an application seeking to review the restrictions imposed by the court.

Following that application, the judge decided to maintain the reporting limitations but permitted the media to disclose the existence of the hearing and the orders made. This same directive applied to Tuesday’s proceedings, reports Breaking News.
