“She’s in trouble” – Fears grow in Sinn Fein that Mary Lou McDonald could lose her own seat in the general election

Mary Lou McDonald, the party president, has been accused by former Sinn Féin TD Brian Stanley of treating him “appallingly,” reports Breaking News.

Amidst controversy surrounding a complaint against him, the now independent TD for Laois-Offaly resigned from the party last month.

Sinn Féin later reported the case to the Garda when he made a counter-allegation.

Mr. Stanley, who is running as an independent in the general election, told reporters in County Laois on Friday that he was “delighted” that the issue had been forwarded to the Gardaí. He also stressed that the Garda was not looking into him personally, reports Breaking News.

Additionally, he charged Sinn Féin with violating the party’s internal complaints procedure’s secrecy.

He responded, “I’m not going to get into it in detail but that’s for Sinn Féin, Sinn Féin are not judge, jury, and they are certainly not executioner,” when asked if he believed that a sexual harassment claim against him had been found to be true by Sinn Féin and that his actions amounted to gross misconduct, reports Breaking News.

He said that since he left the party, Ms. McDonald had not been in touch with him.

He said, “Appallingly, appallingly,” when asked how he felt the party president had handled the situation.

“I am resilient, other people can speak for themselves, I’ve stuck to the truth,” he continued when asked whether the experience had caused him any pain.

“So, for better or for worse, I’ve thrown my hat into the ring,” he said, reports Breaking News.
