A recent published report in the UK has uncovered that an autistic woman contracted HIV after she was raped at a care home.
According to The Daily Mail newspaper, the woman who has been as ‘Cassie’ or ‘Patient B’ was discovered to be HIV positive in 2016 by doctors at Guys Hospital, London, after she collapsed.
The shocking case which has been highlighted in a report by Independent Brent Safeguarding Adults Board, revealed that the woman who is aged in her 50s, began to experience problems back in 2007 when she experienced a number of symptoms including, loss appetite, skin rashes, bruising and tooth problems.
Although an official police investigation ended in 2017, the report stated that the rape could have occurred at any time between 2006 and 2017.
It also highlighted that the woman who is incapable of consenting to sex was failed by services.
It is alleged that the woman was raped by a night shift worker at the care home which has since closed.
However due to the time frame a police investigation concluded that obtaining any forensic evidence would be highly difficult and the case was officially closed as there were no new lines of enquiry.
Meanwhile the private care home has since been closed down and all of its remaining residents have been transferred to other facilities.
