Shocking: Latest report published by the Dublin Region Homeless Executive shows that 1,185 children were left homeless between April and June

According to recent report issued by the Dublin Region Homeless Executive it is understood that between April and June of this year, there were scandalous 1,185 children left homeless in the nations capital each night.

The latest report has released alarming figures that show there is a severe homeless crisis currently in the capital. The Homeless Executive states that a staggering 1,975 adult individuals applied for accommodation on a nightly basis between between the months of April and June, of the above total of adult individuals an alarming 556 of those people where accompanied by 1,185 children each night. The Homeless Executive further explained that 73% of whom were subsequently accommodated with their families in hotels. The charity also say staff in the Dublin Local Authority placement services are having to make over 200 emergency placements in the Dublin Region each day.

The latest report has angered Dublin’s newly appointed Lord Mayor Críona Ní Dálaigh who stated the issue must be dealt with. Ms Dalaigh spoke to Dublin’s Newstalk this afternoon saying she has been in contact with the Environment Minister Alan Kelly trying to organise a meeting to discuss the current homelessness crisis since the 29th of June. Ms Dálaigh told the station: “I wasn’t just looking for the meeting for me. I had asked him to sit down with a couple of politicians from Dublin City Council which is a cross party company, so that represents all parties including his own. “I’ve been asking week on week since then for this meeting. All I got was replies saying, yes this is a serious issue and is a priority and he will meet with me.
She further explained: “He only confirmed last Friday that he is actually going to meet with CPG on the 2nd of September. That’s still too far away, i want to meet with him now.”
