According to latest figures released today there are total of 1,054 families currently homeless around the country.
The shocking statistics show that some 913 families, which includes 1,847 children, are currently resorting to stay in homeless accommodation in Dublin.
The appalling statistics also show that there was a 34% increase in homelessness since last December.
The news has angered Kerry Anthony of homeless charity group Depaul who says an increase in housing stock is āabsolutely criticalā. āOn a daily basis in our services we are seeing more and more families who are facing the devastation of homelessness.”
āWe urge that the recommendations included in the report from the Oireachtas Committee on Housing and Homelessness be delivered as a priority. It is absolutely critical that we increase the housing stock in Dublin by supplying the recommended 50,000 additional housing units over the next five years.ā
