Shocking scenes as car drives at Garda after ramming garda car leaving officer injured in an Irish town

An investigation is underway today as to just how a bizarre incident happened last Thursday involving gardai in Donegal. Gardai are searching for a dangerous driver after a Garda officer was injured and another was forced to take cover in Co Donegal.

The officer was injured when a squad car was rammed at Higginstown Cross, Ballyshannon, in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The perpetrator’s car, a red Skoda Fabia with partial registration number 05 DL, left the scene of the accident.

The extent of Garda’s injuries was not released.

A Garda spokesman confirmed: “A patrol car was rammed and one Garda member was injured. During the course of the incident another Garda member was forced to seek cover when the car drove at them. This member was not injured,” reports The Mirror.

Gardaí appeals to all witnesses to this collision to come forward.

The spokesman added: “Road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the vicinity at the time of the collision are asked to make it available to investigating Gardaí. Gardaí are particularly interested in any sightings of this vehicle in the Ballyshannon, Donegal Town and Mountcharles areas,” reports The Mirror.

Garda Representatives Association President Brendan O’Connor said the incident shows once again how Gardai are regularly at risk.

He said: “This incident again highlights the dangers our members are being exposed to with alarming regularity,” reports The Mirror.
