A Valentine’s Day massacre has been averted thanks to police intervention in Canada.

The insidious plot allegedly involved two people carrying out a mass shooting somewhere in the Canadian city of Halifax today, before killing themselves.

Sources for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Nova Scotia confirmed that a 19-year-old man from the rural town of Timberlea had conspired with a 23-year-old woman from the US city of Geneva, Illinois, to arm themselves and open fire in an unspecified area of Halifax on Saturday. Two other people were also allegedly involved in the plot.

The Timberlea man was found dead at his home on Friday, and the woman was arrested upon arrival at Halifax airport.

The incident is not thought to be related to terrorism.
