New study claims men with full beards or long hair have smaller testicles

A new study has revealed that men who have so called ‘showy’ masculine traits apparently have smaller testicles.

According to a new study published by researchers at University of Western Australia and the University of Zurich, men with attributes such as fuller beards and longer hair are more likely to have smaller testicles than their less hairy counterparts.

The study which included data from a hundred different primates, found that those who had an ‘ornament’ (outward display of masculinity) were less likely to have big testicles.

Researchers behind study say that males who have showy beards, manes, capes and cheek flanges, put more energy into attracting mates through the ornaments and therefore unlikely to have bigger testicles.

They also say that it is unlikely that males could have both characteristics as there is simply not enough energy to do both.

It is thought that males with smaller testicles use more energy to create badges of status via hair growth and masculine displays that intimidate other males and gain the attentions of females.
