Simon Coveney comes out hard to back up Roderic O’Gorman over “sick social media posts”

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence in Irish Government and former Tanaiste Simon Coveney has come out strong to back up the Minister for Children Roderic O’Gorman.

Coveney said on Twitter in response to O’Gorman’s statement:
“Try to ignore faceless trolls with nasty agendas. They have unfortunately become part of politics.
It’s been a difficult few days for you, but it will pass. You’ll be a great minister for Children and colleague in Govt. I’m looking forward to working with you. @rodericogorman

Many social media users are claiming that Roderic O’Gorman appears to think that concerned parents who are worried with legitimate concerns of what are being described as “sick posts” are in fact right wing trolls who are homophobic.

The new Minister for Children Roderic O’Gorman has received a massive backlash for social media posts that were re-shared on his account.

O’Gorman is the firstly openly gay man to take up the position, but social media users are stating that it has absolutely nothing to do with that fact.

There’s a protest rally planned for outside the Dail on Saturday at 2pm demanding that O’Gorman is sacked from his position.

State media completely ignored the below images and the mass controversy that has erupted as a result, but immediately published O’Gorman’s statement today.
