However a mere few hours after Petty’s death was reported the LAPD reported on Twitter that they had, “no information about the passing of singer Tom Petty.”

The rather confusing fiasco also seen fans of the legendary singer pay tribute to him after the Celebrity website TMZ.com reported that he had been taken off life support due to him suffering major brain damage. Although the website did not clarify if Petty had died.
A short time later the website updated their report to state that Petty remains in critical condition in hospital, but ‘Petty is not expected to live much longer’ and he is thought to be ‘clinging on to life’.
Reports say Petty’s management team have been contacted but they have declined to provide any update on his condition.
