Sinn Fein publish Bill to make it illegal to discriminate on the basis of a persons “social or regional accent”

Sinn Fein TD’s, Chris Andrews and Violet-Anne Wynne have put forward a Bill in Dáil Éireann to make it illegal to discriminate against a person based on their “social and economic disadvantaged background”.

The EQUALITY (MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS) BILL 2021 describes “socio-economic disadvantage” as poverty, source of income, illiteracy, level of education, address, type of housing, homelessness, employment status, social or regional accent or from any other similar circumstance.

In section 4 of the SinnFein Bill it reads ““in relation to the socio-economic ground, C is a person with a socio-economic disadvantage and D is not, or vice versa, or C and D have different socio-economic disadvantages.”.
