Sinn Féin have revealed that they intend on submitting a Bill that would effectively ban Co-living developments.

In a move that would call for a change in guidelines for such social housing developments, the party say the Government should be not only be providing affordable living arrangements but good quality living developments.

Speaking on RTÉ’s News at One, the party’s housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin, said the latest Planning and Development Bill would change the current Planning and Development Act.

Ó Broin, who criticised the developments stating that they were inadequate and below standard said the propose of the Bill would remove the option of placing specific planning policy requirements on local authorities.

The Sinn Féin Minister also said that local authorities were not responsible for the current housing shortage but it was instead down to the lack of invesment from the Government.

He added that current option of cramming people into substandard accommodation is not the answer to the crisis, but focus should instead be put on building suitable housing and apartments that caters for both individuals and families.

The party’s proposed Bill comes after planning permission was granted for a 208-bedroom co-living development by Batra Capital, in Dún Laoghaire last week.
