Gerry Adams has this morning left an open door for both Fianna Fail and Fine Gael in terms of negotiations around the formation of a stable government.

However, he has made it very clear that his party would not enter into any coalition as a junior partner.

He said “Our Ard Fheis made it very very clear that we would not go in as junior partners with these establishment parties and we went to the electorate with that as a main plank with that in our manifesto and we received a mandate for that and we will honour that mandate.”

He was then asked if he’d accept an invitation to talk to either Michael Martin or Enda Kenny, to which he replied ‘Of course I will.’
