Six TDs and Senators have been ordered to return €10,000 in expenses




A total of six politicians have refunded expenses payments amounting to almost €10,000 after they were unable to provide evidence to support their claims.

Amongst those to hand back expenses, Fine Gael’s Maria Bailey and Alan Farrell were forced to hand back funds amounting to €6,000 between them.

It is believed that sitting TD’s and Senators were forced to hand back expenses after an independent audit by Mazars found that the six politicians were unable to provide evidence in form of receipts or documents to back up their claims.

According to the audit the following TD’s and Senators were request to hand back Public Representation Allowance which was handed out in 2017.

Fine Gael’s Alan Farrell €4,214.79
Fine Gael’s Maria Bailey €1,977.10
Senator Lynn Ruane €978.81
Fine Gael’s Michelle Mulherin €2,006.73
Independent TD Colette Kelleher €245.85
Fine Gael’s Jerry Buttimer €227.16.

It is understood that all six politicians have submitted their refunds to the Oireachtas.
